What is specific to ThinkPads
FnLock on Fn + Esc. Lenovo’s user guide for the T14, P14s, T16 and P16s describes the switch and the indicator on the Esc key: lit means the F-row is plain F1 to F12, unlit means the icons. Windows recording shortcuts hang off the Windows key, so they ignore the state, but a hotkey you assigned to an F-key in another app will follow it.
Fn + PrtSc opens the Snipping Tool. This is the one brand shortcut worth memorizing. It lands you in the same app as Win + Shift + S, from which Record > New starts a video. On a ThinkPad there is no separate screen-recording key.
F12 is yours. Lenovo Vantage lets you assign F12 to an app or a shortcut, so a ThinkPad can have a one-key recorder launcher if you want one.
Lenovo Vantage and Commercial Vantage. They manage power, updates, hotkeys and, on business models, security settings. Neither records video, and nothing in them binds Win + Alt + R or Win + Shift + R.
When the shortcut does nothing
Press Win + G once inside the app so Windows registers it, confirm Settings > Gaming > Game Bar is on, update the graphics driver, and end “Broadcast bar server (bcastdvr.exe)” in Task Manager if recording stops after a clip or two. Some PCs do not support the Windows key shortcut; Settings > Gaming > Game Bar lets you set a custom one.
From a raw clip to a video you can publish
The built-in tools give you raw footage: no camera, no zoom, the cursor wobble intact. For a walkthrough you post or hand to a client, Rapidemo records the same screen on your ThinkPad and adds zoom on clicks, cursor smoothing, subtitles and a camera overlay while you record. The full Windows guide compares every method; system audio and camera and microphone cover the setup.
